As of 1 February, it will be the Year of The Goat. BGSB had a staff lunch at Chinatown to celebrate today. I arrived late but the advantage of yum cha is that you can always catch up.
In other news, I have heard back from the Research and Development group at QUT that I will be able to put in a grant application for technology to support our teaching programs at BGSB. Great news!
On the technology front I note that Optus has surpassed OzEmail on the list of ISPs in Australia. I'd be interested to see the breakdown here. Is this due to broadband? May it actually be true that broadband adoption is picking up in Australia???
Just returned from the planning meeting for the forthcoming Australian Marketing Institute's national E-Marketing conference. It is going to be held on Friday 9 May at the Sheraton hotel in Brisbane and we are hoping to attract speakers and delegates on present strategies and the future of e-marketing across all sectors. We want to target internet, telecommunications infrastructure and applications and commercial implementation issues across the conference, and we want to base this on some useful research in the area. So we are developing an event package for market research organisations (Nielsen NetRatings, Gartner, etc), as well as industry reps (including WebCentral, NineMSN, Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, OzEmail, Nokia, Ericsson, Movieworld/Dreamworld, QANTAS, etc), professional associations (the Internet Industry Association, Electronic Business Interest Group, etc) and government reps (National Office for the Information Economy, Access Queensland, etc).
Ambitious, but I think quite a useful event. We're also thinking of running a breakfast on the day of the conference, with a speaker from the World Cup, talking on what e-marketing strategies they have used to promote the event. Should be great stuff.
Hello again. I have continued to streamline the design and am happier with the slightly broader look now available (if you've seen this before you might need to reload the page to get the newer width). When I asked for advice from certain persons about whether the look was too far to the left I was told in no uncertain terms, "It's your website. Of course it's too far to the Left"! As a result, I have attempted to fill a little more of the screen but frankly, if the philosophy is a bit Left then I can't help you.
Today at work: meetings, organise a conference from start to finish and have lunch with MBA newbies ('Picnic in the Park').
As promised, I have overhauled my site and installed Moveable Type as my preferred blogging tool for personal entries. All news will now be entered via this system, and best of all, you can make your own comments on my site!
Ah technology!
As noted on my final post before updating the site, I have been poked and prodded on a very regular basis about the outdatedness of my site. Graham, you are in no small degree responsible for this. I would like those of you who have not read my last post to access it here: http://joannejacobs.net/arch.html . I say a lot, and it's easier not to repeat it all here.
