Regarding my appearance on this morning's Sunrise program
For those who are wondering why I didn't challenge Bob Katter's comments on Daylight Saving and skin cancer and getting kids to bed on time, all I can say is that I didn't think the comments were worthy of responding.
The skin cancer issue was dismissed as absurd by the Queensland Cancer Council and more generally by Cancer authorities. See here:
- ABC news story, October 2006
- The Age article, October 2006
- Brisbane Times article, October 2007.
As for the getting-kids-to-sleep thing, the relatively early sunset in SEQ means that the latest the sun would set with daylight saving would be 7:48pm with complete darkness by 8:13pm. By Australian standards, this is still very early. And if all else fails, there's these wonderful things called "curtains" and "blinds" that can help darken a room. And no, they don't fade when you have daylight savings.

Dude you spin me out this time? I saw you on the Channel 9 news - as the first news item! I just had to report here because your phone was switched off!
Hi tech girl wants daylight saving? You must need some sleep in "Cryo Chamber" and wake up another day in the future!
Anyway awesome appearance on TV Joanne!!!!!

Next time you decide to hurl abuse, Mick, perhaps you should consider educating yourself before you start. At the very least, try finding out about my campaign. It was for Daylight Savings in South East Queensland, not FNQ.

Mick probably thinks SEQ stands for Somewhere en Queensland...
But hey great encouragement mate... I guess if you want the bull to stop charging, waving a red rag IS a splendid idea...
Attacking a proponent does not diminish their argument... but hey great tactic.
Mick... is it fair to say you do not want Daylight savings, and if so, I would be very interested to hear why you dont want it... I would rather hear you argue your case so that I can form an opinion of your argument rather than see you attack a campaigner and form a negative opinion of you.
Cheers.
