More Daylight Saving media
I'll be on Channel 7's Sunrise program tomorrow (Tuesday) morning opposite Townsville mayor, Tony Mooney, on the issue of Daylight Saving at about 7:10am. Mooney has vowed to fight against Daylight Saving and the splitting of the state into two time zones. His view of the inoperability of two time zones in one state is not shared by Mt Isa mayor, Ron McCullough, who thinks that splitting a state into two time zones isn't a problem.
EDIT: Mooney isn't available so now Bob Katter looks like he'll be my adversary on the program. Given Katter's historical advocacy of the right-wing popularist policies of Joh Bjelke-Peterson I'm sure it will be an 'interesting' debate.

Well hes not moses mate... But I often am divided on how I see things...
I guess I dont see that I would benefit from Daylight saving... I like to sleep in ... and I work till really late at night...
But by the same token, I would not stand in the road of any really good argurment for adopting it... ie... I would sleep one hour later as I always wake up around the same time... and I would go to bed one hour later, making it even earlier in the morning I stop working...
I guess what I am saying is that I see no problem either way in my life... and if that is all that matters... then go hard and wind the clocks forward girl...

I saw the interview this morning. You had better arguments, but Bob had better rhetoric.
You could have done better rebutting his bit about the 'head office' thing. The queensland-as-some-colonial-outpost-for-sydney mindset is well and truly obsolete. Not having daylight savings is potentially costing queensland businesses that are trying to sell to NSW/VIC.
The disparity in opinions is pretty stark between SEQ and FNQ (the 'FN' part is pronounced the same as if you were saying 'you effing ...') - reading the local cairns rag, seems pretty much everyone up here is dead against DLS, some for the same reasons you espoused as being good reasons (e.g. the environmental impact).
Oh yeh, you bounced your head too much when talking, it was a bit distracting.

How did it go - you get a copy of the interview you could digitise and pass around?
