A dose of paranoia
As I departed my apartment to go to work this morning, my neighbour told me that a prowler had been outside my apartment at 3:00am this morning when he returned home from the casino. Not knowing whether this person was a 'guest' of mine, my neighbour did not call the police, but he was suspicious enough to check with me as I left this morning.
I am feeling rather nervous and vulnerable today.

Joanne - inform the police - you may already have done so. There could be a simple explanation, but request the police do a check on your area.

It wasn't me! I promise! :-)
On a serious note, be careful hmmm? If you have the slightest suspicion that something isn't right, call the police. Better to look a little silly than a lot worse.

It seems an incredibly callous action if it was someone who lived in your area to be loitering around, that just isn't cricket.
I agree with your Mother, the police are there for you, they are more then happy to call out and make sure you are alright. I know this because my wife had a similar incident when I was away on business The police couldn’t do enough for her. They stayed with her until she felt comfortable that the house and surrounding area were safe. They even offered to drive by multiple times during that evening to make sure she was safe. Stay safe!!
